FAQ

General Question and Answer regarding Yoga.

What is Yoga ?

Yoga is sam'skrta word derived from root verb Yunj+ ghain(suffix) forms the word Yog means  unification. Unification of human "I" with the Cosmic "I" is called Yoga. It was invented in India 500 Years ago but in the passage of timeYogis used to reformed with new dynamism.

The whole system of Yoga is built on three main structures:Yoga exercise"A'sanas", breathing"Pra'n'a'ya'ma, and meditation "Sa'dhana'". The exercises of Yoga are designed to put pressure on the glandular systems of the body, thereby increasing its efficiency and total health. The body is looked upon as the primary instrument that enables us to work and evolve in the world, and so a Yoga student treats it with great care and respect. Breathing techniques are based on the concept that breath is the source of life in the body. The Yoga student gently increases breath control to improve the health and function of both body and mind. These two systems of exercise and breathing then prepare the body and mind for meditation, and the student finds an easy approach to a quiet mind that allows silence and healing from everyday stress. Regular daily practice of all three parts of this structure of Yoga produce a clear, bright mind and a strong, capable body.

Is Yoga something like exercise?

No, Yoga is not simply stretching and postures. Yoga is complete science of life. It starts from principles of moral code to physical health through practicing different postures and finaly establishes in higher stance spirituality.

Is Yoga a religion?

Yoga is not a religion rather Yoga is an ancient science of life. It is a need of everybody  in daily life.

What is Asana?

A'sanas are the yoga postures which enable to give inetrnal effects in targeted organs, glands in order to balnce hormonal secretion, to cure diseases and to bring the flexibility in whole body parts.

 How do we name ásanas?

We name ásanas as follows:

  1.  Some ásanas are similar to animal movements so they are named after those animals; for example, matsyamudrá [fish posture], garud́ásana [bird posture], etc.
  2.  Some ásanas have the characteristics of animal structures, so they are also named after those animals; for example, kúrmakásana [tortoise posture], etc.
  3.  Some ásanas are named by the qualities of the ásana; for example, sarváuṋgásana [shoulder stand; literally “all-limbs posture”]. The entire body is benefited by this ásana.

Yoga and Children

Yoga exercises are not recommended for children under 16 because their bodies’ nervous and glandular systems are still growing, and the effect of Yoga exercises on these systems may interfere with natural growth. Two of my great teachers, Rama and Lakshmanjoo, advised me of the dangers that Yoga asans may pose for young children. Children may safely practice meditation and simple breathing exercises as long as the breath is never held. These techniques can greatly help children learn to relax, concentrate, and reduce impulsiveness. Children trained in these techniques are better able to manage emotional upsets and cope with stressful events.

There is no doubt that Yoga postures (asans) and breathing techniques affect the physical body. People these days commonly accept the fact that such therapies as acupressure, neuromuscular massage, and reflexology can have systemic effects due to pressure applied to certain areas of the body. The physical basis for the effects of Yoga asans may be related. The asans and breathing techniques provide a deep massage and strong compression of the parts of the body where endocrine glands are located. Many Yoga stretches seem to target the nerves in the legs, arms, neck, and spine.

In sum, our position is that growth is in large measure controlled by the glandular system. It is a vastly complicated process, and the powerful physical and mental effects of Yoga asans may interfere with natural growth.

Yoga and Pregnancy

We believe it is our duty to point out that it is extremely dangerous for pregnant women to do any inverted poses because of the possibility of complication in pregnancy. In fact, we strongly discourage pregnant women from performing most Yoga poses during pregnancy. We do recommend that pregnant women learn and practice simple daily breathing and meditation techniques, which can help result in an easier delivery and a healthy baby and mother.

I never learn Yoga before, may I practice?

Yes, sure you can start to practice Yoga from any moment, we understand, care and respect students feelings and teaching we accordingly. It is very important that Yoga should be learnt from well experienced teacher.
